This is what Community means to me.
Hi, it’s Dr. Devonish.
Sometimes I hear the comment, “You’re involved in so many activities.” That statement is the genesis for writing this blog. My activities are not tasks I do to fill time; they are about service and connecting with diverse communities.
If you have perused this website, you know that I am an attorney, executive consultant, professor, and poet. These paths are integrated into my daily life and interconnected with my fundamental values based on ethics. For me, serving my community in an ethical way that aligns with my passion for education and literacy, environmental and wildlife conservation, and arts and culture, is worthy of my time.
As a member of Rotary International, I have the opportunity to participate locally and globally on projects that range from promoting peace, fighting disease, supporting education, saving mothers and children, protecting the environment, growing local economies, and providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. Rotary’s Four-Way Test underscores the contributions I make as a Board Member of the Mid-State Literacy Council, an Amelia Island Whale Ambassador, and a Community Representative for the Centre County United Way Funds Distribution Process.
I’m always interested in engaging more with my alma maters: Syracuse University, The American University School of International Service and Washington College of Law, Carlow University, and The University of Sydney.
In keeping with Syracuse University’s motto, “suos cultores scientia coronat,” which means “Knowledge crowns those who seek Her,” my quest is to continue to learn, grow, and contribute to literacy and educational endeavors, environmental and conservation efforts, and artistic and cultural creative works. Won’t you join me? Let’s partner as a team in one of these areas to help improve our world.
Thank you.
